Harry (som er gift med en bergenser) dukket opp første gang i BBgC tilbake i 1998 på et par klubbkvelder og gjorde det samme i 2000, deretter skulle det gå 22 år før han igjen kom til oss en klubbkveld i desember 2022. Vi setter stor pris på at han kommer tilnærmet hver eneste onsdag - med godt humør og alltid en historie på lur. Harry er et sjarmtroll av de sjeldne - skikkelig gentleman med et godt glimt i øynene.

Så hvordan og når begynte du å spille Backgammon, Harry?

My dad taught me backgammon (tablou) when I was 16. Played now and then - compared to playing every week here. The game we played was different (no doubling cube up to 5 games to win. The style of play is automatic (not pausing to count before making or accepting a double) Regarding my answer - why do people playing backgammon with doubling, etc.. take the game so seriously. The Armenians as well as my dad played for the joy of the game and attributed wins and losses to luck.

Noen andre interesser enn Backgammon?

Hobbies?  My involvement with movies is personal, recreational and "intellectual".  My first exposure to a film was a home movie of a picnic when I was about 5 or 6.  The magic of what was a blank wall in our living room was converted to  the movement of people on green grass amongst trees and a lake.   That led to my present addiction with theater movies.

Hvor kommer du fra?

Born in St. Louis, Missouri, moved to Los Angeles area when I was 16 (1946). Went to UCLA and later to the University of Calfornia at Berkeley. In between, I was in the army for two years stationed in France and Germany (1953 to 55).  At Berkeley, I majored in anthropology and did my research for my Ph.D. in India. I taught at Syracuse University, Notre Dame, Ball State University and after retirement in 1987 at the American University of Armenia and later in China at the United College. Moved to Bergen in 2021.

Noen gode råd iht din fantastiske energi og helse?

That's a tough one. I have never really smoked and was reasonably moderate on alcohol. My grandmother in Armenia lived to 101.

Harry is the most open person I have ever met and he has the ability to communicate with all kinds of of people without reservations - he has an open mind and generous heart. 

Easy going and laid back and going with the flow.

Harry and I met in 1991 in New York and we married in San Francisco in 2007.

We lived and worked in China from 2008 to 2012.

Moved permanently to Norway in 2021.
